Cacio & Pepe – Bottega Romana is a relatively young restaurant, which opened in the Piazza Cinque Giornata area, just a few minutes from San Babila, specializing in, as its name suggest, in typical dishes of the rich gastronomic culture of Rome. All lovers of this traditional, tasty and substantial cuisine, based on simple ingredients, will find a paradise for their palates here, thanks to the passion and dedication of the owner Giulia Mangia.
The name reads “Bottega Romana,” and may suggest that it is an inn. It’s not exactly like that, though. In fact, the vocation of the restaurant inevitably evokes the idea of the typical Roman taverns. Cacio & Pepe rivals the tradition with a mantle of refinement, transforming the culinary experience into something elegant, but always firmly anchored in the land of tradition.
The design of the environment and setting are very examined, and it can be seen, even if the general mood that dominates is that of a great sobriety where to surprise, are the details, the touches of style that create the impression of a unit aesthetic and an indication of a cohesive and convincing starting idea, reflected in the great quality of the dishes that come out of the kitchen.
Obviously the tonnarelli cacio e pepe are their warhorses: not only prepared to perfection, with great attention to the culinary technique itself, but also made from genuine, raw and tasty ingredients. The other three gems on the crown of the Roman kitchen are present and fully up to par – the carbonara, the gricia and the amatriciana, always prepared with great skill.
But, let’s not forget about everything else. A good meal is never without a good appetizer, and those that we recommend, in addition to the excellent cold cuts, are the fried zucchini flowers, a poem, and the artichokes and potatoes patty. Among the main courses include excellent cuts of meat, the classic roast pork, as well as the lamb and the legendary saltimbocca, which a Roman-style restaurant certainly could not neglect. All are accompanied by a good selection of wines, from which you can make tasty combinations, and a menu of desserts ideal to crown the meal.
If you love the Roman tradition and look for a refined bistro, that without getting lost in unnecessary formalities, offers you all the best of Capitoline gastronomy, with a normal and warm service, you will have to go to Cacio & Pepe, sit down and leave the magic behind.
