LOM – Dopolavoro

A space in Milan for sustainable creativity

by 2 min read

LOM (Dopolavoro), restaurant in Milan

A farmhouse originally built in 1870 within the solemn perimeter surrounding Milan’s Cimitero Monumentale, later converted into a workshop and then a laboratory, now houses one of the city’s most forward-thinking hubs for sustainable building and work. LOM – Locanda Officina Monumentale is just a short walk from the Cenisio metro stop. Andrea Borri Architetti led the renovation of the building, aiming primarily to preserve original materials alongside modern technology. The weathered exterior brick walls blend harmoniously with the neat garden designed by Vittorio Peretti of Hortensia, a tranquil haven with Provençal touches lit by warm lighting. Covering more than 2,000m² across three floors, the complex presents itself to the city as “a space designed to accelerate the meeting point between 4.0 technology and craftsmanship“, bringing together purposeful work, social connection and the ambition of young enterprises.

Following this exact ethos, LOM is home to “Dopolavoro“, a cocktail bar and vegetarian restaurant that showcases design applied to community life. The setting is intimate and welcoming, pairing rustic character, bare wood and exposed brick with clean, modern furnishings and carefully planned lighting. The atmosphere feels comfortably like home, yet remains elegant, understated and vibrant.

Young and driven by a genuine passion for hospitality, the team at Dopolavoro works tirelessly to provide an easy-going environment where human connection comes first, making a chat with the bartender feel as natural as catching up with an old friend. Behind the bar you will find the craft of mixology at its best, with refined serves such as the Boulevardier, Manhattan Reverse, Pretty Solero and Super Santos with its striking frosted tones, alongside alcohol-free cocktails for zero-proof moments. In the kitchen, the focus shifts towards subtle, unpretentious ingredients, adopting a predominantly plant-based approach that delivers sophisticated dishes born of culinary curiosity and experimentation.

Yet LOM is about more than food and drink. This urban regeneration project also hosts BertO Studio and D-House – Laboratorio Urbano by Dyloan Studio: an interior design firm and the Milan-based tech division of Italian textile specialist Bond Factory. Operating side by side within LOM, they create projects that rethink contemporary living by collaborating with architects, designers, students and universities. Notable examples include the Hanna leather armchair from 2020 and the D-refashion Lab initiative, conceived by Dyloan Studio to tackle overproduction across the fashion industry.
