Eggs are the star here at L’Ov Milano, the bistro in Viale Premuda 14 that also opened a second location since more than a year in Via Solari 34, where you can taste eggs in all their forms. Whether you like them scrambled, poached, fried, in an omelette, in your pasta, in your salad, or on top of your tartare, L’Ov (egg in milanese dialect) proves that the humble egg deserves a place on your plate, no matter what the time of day.
The popularity of eggs in the rest of the world is so vast it combines different foods and cultures and yet Italians have been very slow in absorbing this extremely basic “comfort food” (excluding obviously the use of eggs as an ingredient), or at least to give it the importance it deserves as a main course. L’Ov Milano has perfectly understood this gap with other countries by creating a concept bringing Milan very close to the main capitals of Europe.
We could make the case that you should be including more eggs in your diet for your health. They are packed with protein, rich in antioxidants, and bursting with essential vitamins that you need to get through the day. Although there is no shortage of good restaurants and bistros in the Cinque Giornate area, L’Ov Milano is different from all of them, offering the first and only completely egg based menu.
Open from breakfast to dinner, L’Ov Milano meets everyone’s tastes. Served from 8:30 to 11:30 on weekdays and from 9:30 to 11:30 on weekends and holidays, breakfast varies from classic Italian style with coffee, orange juice, bread, butter and jam to the “Traditional American Breakfast” with the inevitable addition of eggs cooked at your will, bacon, potatoes and pancakes to the “Salmon Breakfast “, with smoked salmon and avocado, to the “Energy Breakfast” with quinoa pudding (always in addition to the eggs and other ingredients) and banana pancakes.
From 12:00 until late evening it’s possible to order from the “All Day Menu”, with delicious proposals (we must mention the “carbonara” pasta and the tartare) varying according to the season in order to always offer ingredients with best freshness and quality. There are also some foreign incursion like the poké – trendy option in the city – available in the versions with salmon and vegan – and the classic burger – available with meat, fish or veggy. Needless to say, the section we prefer is the one dedicated to the main ingredient, where you can choose the cooking method and sides. Our favorite combination? Rösti and Bacon: fried wild eggs served on rösti of bread and crispy bacon.
To complete the offer there is also a menu dedicated to snacks and to the Italian aperitivo, with sweet and savory dishes and a selection of teas and infusions as well as delicious cocktails created ad hoc by the Mag Café crew. During the weekends and on public holidays, there is also the American brunch, with light and full meal optins, to enjoy each and every moment with friends, family or colleagues.
Reflecting the menu’s emphasis on comfort, L’Ov’s décor is simple but inviting. Dark warm greens and complimenting cream tiling are illuminated by soft, unobtrusive overhead lights. On the lower floor there is also a room for private events: whether for a birthday or a Christmas dinner with colleagues.
L’Ov’s service is attentive but not intrusive, quick but calm. You can really feel at home no matter what time of day. Eggs are the perfect treat to bat away the winter blues, and L’Ov Milano is the perfect place to enjoy them.
