In the beginning, laboratories and old factories. Then Milan discovered the industrial-chic and it was immediately love. On the other hand, it could only be a successful union, between the most urban and trendy furnishing style of the moment and Milan, the Italian metropolis of excellence. Less is more, and many restaurateurs seem to have understood and applied it: minimalism, neutral or dark shades, a meeting between wood and metal coexist in avant-garde rooms with high and very high ceilings.
A concept that comes from the USA, but declined in an Italian key. The atmosphere that characterizes the locals who have embraced industrial chic is unique, and makes the mind fly to New York lofts, giving a decidedly international twist. If you are passionate about design and the idea of dining in a space that has been given new life, it intrigues you, follow our advice. Among pizza, traditional or ethnic cuisine, here are some unmissable catering addresses that have embraced this unique style!
Via Bergognone, 24
New concept of Neapolitan pizzeria in the Tortona area, Cocciuto stands out from traditional pizzerias for furnishings, first of all. An environment inspired by the urban chic New York atmosphere, with refined and elegant combinations that welcome guests immediately making them fall in love with the atmosphere. Exposed bricks on the walls, wooden tables, hanging lamps, soft lighting, armchairs and velvet sofas complete the picture, reflecting an attention to detail that is difficult to find in a pizzeria. The pizza, prepared with the best ingredients of the boot, respects the ancient Neapolitan tradition but also makes itself “social” in the formula by the meter that favors sharing and conviviality. In addition to the classic pairing with beer, a selection of natural and French wines or the alternative of pairing with a good cocktail. You must try it!
Via Melchiorre Gioia, 37
Its elegant appearance from international vibes, suspended between New York and Los Angeles, the creativity of the kitchen and the quality of the service make Il Santa – Bistrò Moderno an address to discover in the panorama of fine Milanese dining. At this all glass and design restaurant with very high ceilings you get attached easily, because, if at first it amazes with the view you will be sold once you taste the cuisine. Dinner is the moment in which Il Santa gives the best of himself: the dim lights, the neutral tones of the walls that recall raw concrete, the paintings of contemporary artists that are always different and the skyscrapers that look behind the large windows to create an atmosphere unique in the city, transforming the environment into a rare and sought after place. The menu then is a real treat, an exercise in refinement that Chef Stefano Grandi exercises every day, constantly looking for that excellence that can only be achieved thanks to elements of precise culinary vision and a great passion, that can be perceived in every dish.
Via Solferino, 33
Definitely one of the most popular addresses in Milan since its opening, during the Salone del Mobile 2013: the Dry conquers immediately with its pairing of pizza – cocktails that at the beginning might have seemed unusual, but today we are absolutely addicted. Its glossy concrete counter, high ceilings with exposed pipes, brass finishes, minimal furniture and soft lighting create a charming and heady atmosphere together. Pizza and focaccia instead, cooked in a wood-fired oven and leavened 48 hours, create a high dependency. What about cocktails? We can only anticipate that in a few days the new drink list will be released. An excellent excuse to come back again and again to try all the possible combinations.
Via Thaon di Revel, 9/A
Wooden tables and high peeling walls are characterized by brick vaults, wooden ceilings with exposed beams and a marked taste for the recovery of the furnishings, make Ajo Blanco an unmissable address in the Isola district. The minimal decor is in contrast with the menu: innumerable types of tapas, meat, fish and vegetarian, in addition to tasty dishes of local gastronomic culture, make it practically impossible to tire of the paper proposals. To make the atmosphere truly unique and perfect for an evening with friends the rich selection of wines, cocktails and the inevitable Sangria, which will make you stay out until the restaurant closes at 2 am, without even realizing it!
Via Decembrio, 33
Ligurian inn with bowling alley in the southern suburbs of Milan, U Barba is the perfect place to delight the palate with the delicious specialties offered in an unusual location full of unique details. If you are looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating even in winter, this is the address you are looking for. The furniture speaks for itself making this location a welcoming home with modern, neutral tones, exposed bricks on the walls and large wooden tables. Lamps, vintage suitcases, a wasp and a bicycle hanging on the walls make U Barba a special and recognizable place, one of those where it is impossible to stop looking around.
Via Melzo, 12
Kanpai brings to Milan the best of Japanese tradition inspired by the izakaya, the typical local of the Sol Levante where one eats while enjoying good sake. Kanpai wants to express the Japanese spirit in an urban and contemporary way, both in the captivating design of the restaurant and in the menu proposals. In the kitchen Chef Jun, a native of Tokyo, innovates dishes of the culinary tradition of his country, while at the counter cocktails are made with the best Japanese sake, gin and whiskey. The details with an underground taste pervade the room. Peeling walls and a large mural customized with video installations adds a touch of pop to the atmosphere.
