If a magic formula were enough to describe its essence, it would be the Flavor Philosophy: cuisine and cocktails that work in synergy to discover new flavors. If it were a color it would be blue, like the velvet of the sofas at the entrance. If it were a moment, it would probably be autumn: the season of returns, the first candles and intense colors. This – and much more – is La Società, a kaleidoscope of flavors, images and perfumes, in Via Panfilo Castaldi 19.
La Società is the realization of a passion project, a restaurant and cocktail bar open from the aperitif to the after dinner. It was born from an idea of Andrea and Giulia, hosts but first of all curious souls, always looking for “something more.” The goal is to reinvent traditional dishes and bring them closer to the art of mixology, while giving visitors a complete experience that is not limited to just food & drinks, thanks to their theme nights, live music, books and DJ sets.
From wallpaper to paintings, each element is the result of careful research. The entrance hall – also visible from the outside thanks to the large windows – houses blue velvet armchairs, a marble fireplace, sacred images, vintage mirrors and old bottles of wine used as candle holders that illuminate each table. Just before the counter, there is a small bookcase with dozens of inspirational volumes, almost a moodboard of the place: design, photographs from Paris, references to Japan, collectible tomes that pay homage to great artists of the ‘900, from Araki to David Bowie to David Lachapelle. And then there’s the colorful counter supervised by Andrea, where you can enjoy an informal aperitif and his unmissable cocktails.
The cocktail list reflects the vintage soul of the place: fresh ingredients and alcoholic bases expertly combined in search of the ideal combination. You can sit on the elegant oil stools or on the tables at the entrance, choosing between seasonal flavors and brightly colored labels. The kitchen makes use of excellent fresh ingredients, crafted with skill by the chef and reinvented in daring, but very successful combinations: a perfect balance that favors taste but does not forget aesthetics. The restaurant menu varies with the season and availability, offering about twenty curated but effective dishes, alternating dishes of land and sea. Some highlights are the ricotta and black sesame flan with leek and mushrooms, the unmissable spaghetti alla chitarra creamed with brown fillet with fillet tartare and black scorzone truffle, the salmon carpaccio marinated in alpine rose bitters with fennel and orange or the risotto with cream of peas and truffle, crunchy peas and chocolate. More standouts are the duck glazed with balsamic vinegar with carrots in two consistencies and frozen celery, not to mention the venison fillet with Jerusalem artichoke puree, raspberry coulis with juniper and red beet. To sweeten the end of the dinner, go for a basil mousse with honey nut crumble.
In short, calling it just a restaurant or a cocktail bar would be an understatement. La Società is a meeting place, a convivial lounge that has made the synergy between good food and the art of mixology its business card: making it the ideal destination to take your time and feel at home.
