You should confess: you like vintage, too. How it’s possible not falling in love with old antiques and clothing items, such rich in history that are able to evoke even the most beautiful childhood memories? Luckily in Milan, there are many enchanting markets that offer this type of products, where to spend a pleasant afternoon, walking through furniture, coats and souvenirs. Here is our personal selection.
MERCATONE DELL’ANTIQUARIATO SUL NAVIGLIO GRANDE
Alzaia Naviglio Grande
In one of the most attractive and impressive areas of Milan takes place on the last Sunday of every month, the Mercatone dell’Antiquariato, an initiative promoted by the Naviglio Grande Association. From Viale Gorizia to Via Valenza, in a distance of about two kilometers, you will find 380 stands specialized in high quality antiques, including items such as paintings, furniture, accessories, books, glasses, porcelains, board games, comics and those who have more and so forth. For the occasion, the restaurants, art studios and small characteristic courtyards of the area will be looking forward to opening their doors to tourists and Milanese passers-by. From 9 AM to 6 PM, Navigli will breathe the air of the good old days: let yourself be caught by the magic of the old vintage pieces, little gems that contain their own story to be discovered, just waiting for you to listen to it.
EAST MARKET
Via Mecenate, 84
Which one is the coolest market? We have no doubts: it’s the East Market. On this English inspired market, everyone can sell, exchange and buy vintage, collectibles and modern items such as clothing, shoes, discs, video games, crafts, prints, porcelain and much more. There are more than 250 exhibitors, carefully selected by the staff of East Market and hosted in the brand new location of Via Mecenate, a former 6000 sqm and refurbished aeronautical factory. Here you can come and look for things, take a walk diving into time and maybe even stop for a lunch or a snack in the main corner, the East Market Diner. It’s unmissable the big party of vintage, even the DJ set. Since the last edition, there are many new things: go and discover them yourself, it will be like walking in Portobello Road!
FRIDA MARKET
Via Pollaiuolo, 3
I think you all know Frida, the iconic bar in the Isola area. But have you already heard about Frida Market? This lovely market is organized by the local in collaboration with Courtyard 68. The market is a home to the vintage items, homemade, tailoring and clothing in general, vinyl and creative crafts as designer jewelry. We advise you: it’s impossible not getting lost among the thousand items on display, and don’t go home without some new purchases! If after shopping you can’t wait to recharge your batteries with a nice snack or a delicious aperitivo, take advantage of the bar itself, which offers a varied menu and for the evening even a lot of music. Whether you just want to spend an alternative Sunday or finding the perfect gift for you, Frida Market is the perfect place for a walk through the time.
WUNDER MARKET
Itinerant
It takes place in increasingly dazzling spaces with a dreamy atmosphere. It was born in 2015, and it doesn’t stop to amaze the ones who go to the event for the first time, and even those who already know it. What are we talking about? The Wunder Market of course! This market place is an inexhaustible source of wonders (wunder in German, what explains the name): inside you will find more than 100 stands, which will show the best items carefully selected for you, unique and unobtainable pieces, craft creations and design and many art works. At Wunder Market you can come and have a chat with the exhibitors, attend performances and workshops, listen to the good music thanks to a rich selection of music, taste inviting and tasty food and drink a fresh beer in a location entirely dedicated to fun and sharing a great time.
POPCORN GARAGE MARKET
via Emilio Morosini, 8
Once upon a time, a few years ago, there were young creative people: these nice guys got moved by their common passion for the markets and for the redevelopment of certain abandoned areas of Milan, and decided to put a market place in these areas, giving them a new life. This is how the PopCorn Garage Market was born, now a famous market that embellishes and gives a breath of freshness to many distressed neighborhoods in Milan. In this special market, you will find many vintage items, clothing, jewelry, as well as handmade objects by emerging Italian designers: come and peek at the next event, which will be held at the Garden of Cultures. To enrich the whole there will also be live music and DJ sets, quality food and craft beer, the perfect ingredients to spend a Happy Sunday with friends.
CHEZ BABETTE – GARAGE SALE
Via Wildt, 2
In the heart of Lambrate, precisely at Autofficina Ferrante, there is an event you don’t expect. It is precisely here that the events of Chez Babette – Garage Sale come to life: a vintage market that proposes vintage clothing and accessories (men and women), second hand, fast fashion, collectibles and furnishings, and delicious hand-made garments. A very special market where you can find unique items. It’s a market for those who love to be different and don’t get used to the meaning of “conventional” in fashion, but also for those who occasionally give a whim (and rightly) to themselves. Fashion lovers, this is the perfect place for you: it will be like soaking in the atmosphere of the very famous The Market of New York, surrounded by an American style furniture!
