Sant Ambroeus

The time has come for us to dedicate an article to one of Milan’s most famous pasticcerie – steeped in deep rooted history: Sant Ambroeus.

Having turned 80 in 21016, we can safely count this pastry shop as one of the places of historical importance in our city. Even its name, which was chosen at the time of its foundation, is a tribute to the Bishop of Milan and was one of the first places that linked the great art of French pastry making to the Italian tradition.

Guided by the Langé family who took over management of the business in 1986, the real hero of Sant Ambroeus is Maestro Luciano Vismara. Having worked here for 57 years, the prestige of this pasticceria rests on his shoulders. Impeccable service extends from breakfast to a classic lunch of cold light plates, salads, pastas and traditional Milanese mains. Needless to say, their cakes are amazing, too.

Though we are less likely to visit it for a main meal, Sant Ambroeus is always a safe choice right in the city center and known by all foreigners. Its international reputation is also attributable to its presence in multiple locations in New York (one of the few places there where you can savor a real Italian cappuccino) as well as its spectacular sweets.

Advice for those who had never had occasion to visit this small temple of taste and history, famous for its tradition, but also striving to serve appeal to contemporary times.
