The best piadinas in Milan
Alternative flours, prime fillings and boundless creativity: a fresh urban identity for one of Milan's favourite street foods

It is the quintessential street food of Romagna: simple, quick, delicious, designed to be eaten by hand without any ceremony. Thanks to this straightforward, digestible nature, the piadina has found a fresh identity in Milan. Leaving the seaside kiosk behind, it has become an urban lunch break, an informal aperitivo and a thoughtful bite focused on quality doughs and ingredients. Tradition, yes, but with a contemporary outlook. Here is where to taste the best piadinas in Milan, according to us.
C’era una volta… una piada
Viale Coni Zugna, 37

Stepping inside means diving into a fairy tale, just as the name suggests: table lamps, retro wallpaper, paintings and staff dressed as storybook characters. The formula is well-tested: organic flour doughs, a seasonal menu and plenty of variations ranging from traditional, vegetarian, special and lighter options. The dough follows the classic recipe with water, flour, salt, lard and extra virgin olive oil, proved slowly to ensure fragrance and lightness. There are four branches across Repubblica, Sant’Agostino, De Angeli and Porta Ticinese.
L’Isola della Piadina
Via Santa Maria alla Porta, 11

Here, moments from Cairoli, the piadina is born from bread-making technique and a rigorous method: the dough matures for up to 72 hours, with an increasing proportion of wholemeal flour and precise control over timing and environmental conditions. The result is a well-structured yet balanced flatbread, with fillings based on certified ingredients: bresaola punta d’anca IGP, Speck del Trentino IGP, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, Calabrian ’nduja and Norwegian salmon. Do not miss the Piadina gourmet con tartare di scottona, light and delicious.
Piadineria Artigianale Pascoli
Via Niccolò Paganini, 2

At Pascoli, just off Corso Buenos Aires, the dough is prepared fresh every morning with 00 flour, lactose-free milk, organic extra virgin olive oil, sweet Cervia salt and bicarbonate. Alongside the classic version, there are spelt, wholemeal and hemp doughs, all rolled out and cooked to order. Fillings balance traditional flavours with more elaborate combinations: the Pedro with 100% Iberian Paleta de Bellota Patanegra, robiola, chopped fresh tomato and rocket, or the Peyote, with an Angus beef burger, mortadella, bufala DOP and pistachio pesto. Ingredients come from selected producers, and craft beers complement the menu.
Divina Piadina
Viale Abruzzi, 21

On Viale Abruzzi, this spot serves 30-centimetre piadinas, rolled thin by hand and cooked on a cast-iron griddle. The menu features the classic crudo, squacquerone e rucola, as well as alternative choices such as wholemeal dough and fillings with cured horse meat shreds, bresaola, truffled caciotta and sweet versions. And what could be better than a good glass of wine to bring out the flavours of a piadina? Over the years, the owners have built a respectable cellar, making Divina Piadina ideal for a business lunch, an aperitivo with friends or a casual dinner.
Piasù
Via Lodovico Ariosto, 2

‘From piadina to tiramisù’ sums up the spirit of this charming kiosk in the Conciliazione area, set in a tree-lined square and draped with fairy lights that make it welcoming at any time of day. There are four doughs to choose from: traditional soft-wheat flour, vegan wholemeal, organic low-carb Khorasan kamut and gluten-free. The fillings showcase carefully chosen charcuterie and cheese suppliers, and alongside piadinas you can opt for salads, treat yourself to a spritz and, naturally, finish on a high with an excellent tiramisù!
