L’Angolo di Casa
Seafood flavours on Viale Piave

The sea always evokes adventure, the unknown, and far-off destinations. It represents discovery, gathering, a point of departure and arrival. Yet sometimes you can find the sea in a dish and set off on a journey from there, far simpler than packing rucksacks and boarding flights. It engages all five senses, plunging you into Mediterranean flavours and the vivid colours and aromas of Italy. That is precisely what happens at L’Angolo di Casa, a small restaurant on elegant Viale Piave, just moments from Porta Venezia.

The dining room is warmly welcoming, with simple yet elegant lines and a seductive touch of red on the walls, bathed in soft lighting. There is a dash of eccentricity that reflects the owner, Angelo, the life and soul of the place, without detracting from its refined feel. Shelves lined with bottles promise an extensive, well-stocked wine cellar.
The freshness of the produce is the venue’s true strength: personally selected by the owner and cooked to respect and enhance its natural taste. The flavours are bold, authentic and neatly balanced on the plate: raw scampi from Manfredonia, gamberi from Mazara, pristine oysters, caviar and truffles, each chosen with meticulous care.

My meal started with an excellent baccalà mantecato with caramelised Tropea red onion, reaching its peak with the delicate, savoury risotto Sofia 32, creamed with prawn tartare. For something lighter before a substantial main, you might opt for classics like broad bean purée with baby squid or a courgette velouté with prawns. For pasta lovers, the linguine ai ricci di mare are an absolute must.
Mains continue with tender crusted tuna, a worthy alternative to baked turbot with potatoes, black olives and capers, or sea bass baked in salt with fennel and orange. Meat options are also available, from beef tartare to tagliata with artichokes, while notable first courses include risotto with champagne and truffle or paccheri with datterini tomatoes and burrata. The raw seafood deserves a special mention: oysters, tartare, carpaccio and shellfish evoke memories of summer dinners by the sea, while the fritto misto—the ultimate test of any seafood kitchen—arrives crisp and light.

At L’Angolo di Casa, saving room for dessert is essential: tiramisù or mini cassate are hard to resist, but the real highlight is the ritual of warm brioches filled with Nutella to order by the owner himself. It is a wildly photographed moment that makes the finale fun as well as indulgent.
In short, if home is made not of bricks but of heart, you will find plenty of it here—with plenty to satisfy the palate too.
