In the heart of  Isola Tiberina, once consecrated to Aesculapius, the famous Sora Lella trattoria has stood since 1959; an institution of the Eternal City and an unmissable destination for rediscovering the authentic flavors of Roman tradition, this gastronomic corner at number 16 of Via di Ponte Quattro Capi bears the name of its founder,  Elena Fabrizi  – alias Sora Lella – sister of the great actor Aldo Fabrizi. At the helm of the restaurant today are Lella’s grandchildren who conquer the hearts and palates of customers with an enveloping informal atmosphere and a menu rich in intense flavors and aromas, ” as grandma commands “.

Once you cross the threshold of Sora Lella, it will be impossible not to feel at home, welcomed by the small but great family that, from generation to generation, has cheered up this  authentic trattoria with a big heart . There are two rooms in which to sit, on the ground floor or on the upper floor, among original coffered ceilings, tables set according to tradition, paintings and period photos, among which the large  portrait of the owner , Sora Lella, stands out, who still seems to carefully and attentively supervise the intense coming and going of courses and glasses of wine that intertwine with the dense chatter of the guests.

Sora Lella’s cuisine is a  celebration of Romanity , in all its spontaneity. Seasonal raw materials of regional origin characterize abundant and delicious dishes, in a fragrant journey of appetizers, first and second courses and inevitable side dishes. From historic specialties such as Nonna Lella’s meatballs and Aldo’s supplì alla Tiberina to the famous Roman pasta dishes including the unmissable Carbonara, creamy as tradition dictates; offal, lamb, oxtail stew and tripe are accompanied by artichokes, Roman and Jewish style or puntarelle with anchovy sauce, stewed peperonata or chicory, sautéed with Proceno red garlic.  Last but not least , desserts based on Roman ricotta DOP, from the most classic and delicious cake with Cantiano sour cherry compote to the flan with dark chocolate flans, chopped pistachios and homemade amaretti.
