If I say “intergalactic”, which words come to mind? Cosmos? Stars? Darkness? Dreams? These are exactly the kind of images that Intergalactic Gary (huge Trekkie, if you couldn’t tell) conjures up with his music. Having been on the scene for 30 years, starting out in the Hague, Intergalactic Gary found inspiration in the sounds of Giorgio Moroder and Italian Disco, mixing it up with Drum and Bass and Synth Sounds in his sets. For fans of the genre, Friday’s set at Nul at Plastic is a must-see.
For an alternative night outside of Milan, the Teatro Sociale in Como is hosting one of the founding members of Massive Attack, Daddy G as well as Uabos of Le Cannibale.
At Dude Club you can find Margaret Dygas with deep techno. The international artist has toured the world playing the best clubs in Europe and the United States, and becoming a resident artist at local institution Panorama Bar.
At Astronomical Observatory, Margaret’s techno will be offset by one of the leading exponents of electronic music in Eastern Europe, Andrey Pushkarev who is mixes ambience with dub. Milan is one of his 20 stops on his Northern Lights tour which celebrates his 20 years of activity.
Saturday, December 3
I knew I would be cancelling any appointments on Sunday when I discovered Saturday’s program.
Dogs, one of my favorite monthly outings, will be held just this Saturday night and will host Partok, the resident DJ at the Block Club, Tel-Aviv – a city famous for its parties. As you read this, I would advise you to put on the last set of Partok’s Boiler Room session, to immerse yourself fully in the dark and dreamy atmosphere that catapulted his music to world renown. For the warm-up, there could be no better support than Inner Lakes with their rhythmic and hypnotic beats.
Deciding where you’ll spend the evening will be very difficult, however, as Dude at Wall is hosting some pretty amazing alternatives. “So will be now” and “Oro y Sangre” are songs that are constantly on repeat on my playlist, as is “For Kristina with Love, John”. I’m speaking of course, of the Spanish producer, and founder of the label Hivern Disc, John Talabot.
Also at Wall, the talent Carola Pisaturo, manager of label Claque Musique, will delight our ears with a mixture of funk, techno and house that will go all night.
Always remaining in the funk genre with “old school” influences, we will find Jeremy Underground at Block Club. Being a big fan of Kerry Chandler, Jeremy Underground dreamed of being like his favorite DJ, and now plays at the best clubs in the world.
In addition, from 1 to 3 December, #MASH returns to Milan. The festival dedicated to the sounds and post-global cultures is now in its second year, and will take place at different locations in the city (MUDEC, BASE, BIKO with the closing party to be held on December 4 at BUKA) playing host to the producers and DJs who better reinterpreted and renewed the idea of world music. This year’s theme is Sonic Impact, which, in addition to the various DJ sets, will hold a series of talks, screenings and listening sessions that seeks to examine the impact of the digital revolution, music and its distribution.
