You know the first time when you go out with somebody you fancy? You scan them. You sniff them out. You obsess over details to see if there is any connection beyond appearances. This happened to me the first time I visited Les Garcons de la Rue. After reading up on the place, I decided to try the salon. I arrived without an appointment at 10 am on a cold rainy day. It was love at first sight.
Love for the environment for one thing. Les Garcons de la Rue is located in a loft built in a narrow street in the Navigli area on via Giuseppe Lagrange 1. It’s a bright and huge space with a swing-set in the middle of the room where you can sit.
The layout is friendly to everyone – those who love details, and those who need somewhere to entertain the kids. The furnishing sare shabby chic. Garden chairs mounted on wheels, neon lights, bright stools, and lots and lots of books.
I sit down for a wash. This is the most relaxing skin massage I have ever received. Everything contributes to make a real difference here, a coffee is accompanied by a slice of pie, or a nice recipe or design book that you can browse through while trying out the treatments.
Les Garcons de la Rue in French means the boys of the street. And Street Style is definitely what Mauro and Fabio – the owners – are most inspired by. Their fashionable cuts and colours not only are contemporary, but they’re adapted to the spirit and habits of every single customer – man, woman or child.
This place has an international air about it. It could be in any major city anywhere in the world. Models, artists, professionals are all seen here, but its clientele is varied but share strong personalities as a facet in common. They have opened a new salon in the neighbourhood of Porta Romana. Same concept, same attitude.
I have to be honest here, I had the feeling something was missing in my life, but Les Rue de Garcons has filled that void! Love is in the hair…
