Pita Concept – Falafel Bistro was the street food phenomenon that was missing in Milan, but thankfully, it’s now here. You can now find good pita here.
Perfectly located, you can find Pita Concept just near the columns of San Lorenzo.
You may need to have the concept of the store explained to you if you’re coming here for the first time. There is a menu with the usual various options and the price is not much more than what you’d expect from a fast food chain, but bear with me. While waiting we are given a hot pita to try covered in oil and oregano. Crazy.
This modern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern bistrot offers vegan options such as the Hummus, Tahini, Falafel and Pita. All ingredients are fresh and delicious in this small but fantastic bistrot. For an authentic flavour, the Pita is baked at several times a day, and can be enjoyed at lunch, at dinner, or as a late snack. For the more health conscious, there is a chance to order salad (still with some falafel balls, though!).
Then we make our choice. What to put in our little pita? the falafel (strictly vegetarian) a tahini sauce which is subtle and delicate and a salsa verde which red cabbage, tomato salad and cucumbers and pickles. You can pick and choose what you want.
We also order a large fries which arrives piping hot. Tray in hand, we take our carefully wrapped pita (which comes in fake newspaper) and served in metal rings to stop them from tipping over.
We sit at the counter on the stools and take our first bite, then our second, third and fourth. When do we come back?
