It’s a fact that our lunch breaks are getting shorter and shorter. If you leave the office now, you barely have time for a sandwich. But if you are tired of high calorie foods, hate fast food or simply want to get into shape after the holidays, how do you maintain a healthy diet? Here’s the answer – That’s Vapore in Corso di Porta Vittoria!
A long time lover of #healthy restaurants, I could not avoid trying this gem, which is becoming better known in Milan with each passing day. There are no shortage of people who apparently want a healthy lunch, but at the same time want something tasty and delicious. From the name you may have guessed that steaming is one of the predominant cooking technique’s used at That’s Vapore. It’s a low calorie technique that keeps all the flavors. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are definitely a strong point of this restaurants repertoire, but even the fish, meat and homemade pasta is cooked in this way.
The restaurant always seems busy at lunch, so you may have to wait a while before you can sit down (but waiting times are mercifully short). The bistro, which is of rustic appearance, spreads over two floors (the second being an open loft), but there is a funky little outdoor terrace available in good weather. Table placements are not fussy, but beautiful and functional.
As a true lover of feta, my go-to choice is the Greek Salad with barley which comes served with cucumbers, tomatoes, red and green peppers and oregano. It’s a light, fresh dish. I also highly recommend trying one of the delicious smoothies prepared with fresh fruits and vegetables, each with different properties and health benefits that come made with fresh fruit and vegetables. The list is large so you can choose the one that perfectly suits your needs and tastes, all in line with the philosophy of “smart healthy food” that also happens to be tasty.
If for some reason you can’t make it to the store in Corso di Porto Vittoria, there are three other That’s Vapore stores, one in Via Buonarroti, one in Piazza Gae Aulenti, one in Milano Fiori (Assago) and the last one in City Life. Prices are very reasonable and in line with expectations for a place like this. And for the very bad days at work, just know you can have your favorite dish delivered directly to your desk. Try it and see!
