Things to do in Milan on New Year’s Day

New Year, New Life

One of the common phrases you’ll hear used to ring in the New Year in Milan is ‘anno nuovo, vita nuova‘ – ‘new year, new life’. It’s a sentiment shared all around the world –  as the Earth completes its orbit around the sun, we look back over the year to what we’ve accomplished and what we still are yet to accomplish. While half of Milan may still be sleeping off a hangover from an epic New Year’s Eve, and the other half have escaped to the mountains for the ski season, we’re here to help you make good on those new year’s resolutions!

Here are 5 things to do in Milan on New Year’s Day:

Go For a Run

Cosa fare il primo dell'annoWe know. You probably had a few drinks. You were probably dancing until the sun came up. And it’s cold as hell outside. But if you can will yourself to run now, then you set the tone for the rest of the year. It can only get easier from here on in, right? Slip into your tracksuit, lace up those sneakers, and check out our suggestions for the top places to run in Milan.

Take in some culture

Mudec - MilanoIf one of your new year’s resolutions was to become a bit more involved with the arts, take the chance to immerse yourself in the Mudec. There’s no better place to relax, unwind and contemplate the year ahead than in this expansive and fascinating museum. The Mudec’s exhibits span architecture, art, and non-European anthropology. Who knows you may even find a new interest or hobby for the new year. Please note that the Mudec’s New Year’s Day opening hours slightly different, with the gallery opening only in the afternoon from 14.30 until 19.30.

Spend More Time with Family

Cosa fare il primo dell'anno2016 was an eventful year by any reasonable standard. For many of us, those unexpected events led to more time at work, away from the ones we love. Make the most of your time off and treat the family to a day at the Villagio delle Meraviglie. Sure, Christmas may be long behind us, but the the Villagio delle Meraviglie, set in the stunning Indro Montanelli Gardens in Porta Venezia still has lots of rides, attractions and (best of all) an ice skating rink and is open until January 8.

Treat Yourself

Palazzo Parigi Grand SpaDid you let yourself get a little run down during the year? Maybe you just overdid the celebrations on New Year’s Eve. Either way, if your body is crying out for some TLC, Milan has no shortage of luxurious spas that will leave you feeling revitalized for whatever 2017 has in store. For a pampering you won’t soon forget, it’s hard for us to go past the Grand Spa in the Palazzo Parigi Hotel or the Armani/Spa in the Armani Hotel Milano. Go on, treat yourself.
