Hosteria di via Stoppani

Italian cuisine in a welcoming place with no frills and lot of taste

When some friends come and see me for the weekend I never know where to take them to dinner, perhaps because it’s a city so full of different places that it is very difficult to decide. Especially in the last period there are a lot of gourmet pizzerias at exorbitant prices, Thai, Japanese and Chinese new generation restaurants that we often forget about good local cuisine. When I feel like eating typical Italian food, Hosteria di Via Stoppani is always a good idea.

As they sentence on their website: “Here you rediscover the taste of eating well”. In fact, it’s like having dinner at home with the plus of someone who suggest the wine and, above all, that cooks for us. The elegant setting without ostentation, Giuliana’s cooking, Marco’s professionalism and competence, the friendly and discreet welcome, makes Hosteria Stoppani a place where you’ll want to come back again and again.

When we enter the room we are attracted by the arrangement of the tables, organized to form a large rectangular in the center of the room, where you can possibly share dinner with other diners. At the sides of the room there are tables for two or sofas, to converse a little more cheek to cheek. In the room that stands out after the kitchen you can find a pleasant courtyard, convenient for dinners or private parties.

The menu, ça va sans dire, is all Italian and includes appetizers such as the typical Tuscan, Piacenza, and Emilian cold cuts, vitello tonnato, creamed codfish and a vegetarian choice, just to name a few. There is also a wide choice among first courses and in particular three different types of risotto, an extensive choice of main courses of beef, horse and scottona tartare, beaten with a knife and seasoned at the table, Milanese cutlet with almond breading, black angus and lamb and an excellent selection of wines curated by the sommelier who comes from the famous Franco Cellar in Via Raffaello Sanzio. Not to be taken for granted: the choice to have in the menu gourmet desserts that exalt the dinner with a precious finishing touch.

Besides, lovers of wine tastings can enjoy the many events organized month after month in Hosteria thanks to collaborations with emerging quality labels, from the most famous producers to talented independents: tastings always accompanied by dinners with food pairings that enhance wines themselves.

Le Meraviglie

Viale Monza, 258 20128 Milano

Why "Le Meraviglie"? Because this fascinating restaurant and pizzeria, which Andrea Villani and Redi Shijaku, owners of Mani in Pasta Group, opened in 2019, about 4 years after opening their first takeaway pizzeria, seems to hide something magical within its walls. Located at the northern end of Viale Monza, it's undoubtedly a unique location of [...]
