We are quick to say: I want an ice-cream. There’s ice-cream and then there’s “the Ice-cream”. Addicts have no doubts. You only go to Il Massimo del Gelato. At the entrance an inviting perfume of fruit. Fresh. Rigorously stacked in the cases of the local market. Rigorously seasonal. Inside a tripod of colors. The Massimo doesn’t have tables or facilities, a little two seat couch in the corner if you really must: but they are details.
Let yourself be guided by the colors of the ice-cream, that vary even from week to week: mango, papaya, a shattering raspberry, a lemon that could be a sorbet, a classic Mojito (careful, you’ll only find it if mint is fresh in season), a strawberry grape in autumn, a pink grapefruit in summer, a Lebanese cinnamon, a ginger cream, a sublime almond… but let’s get to the “piece de resistance”: chocolate. Peyrano, official supplyer of the Royal Family since 101 years, to say spoiled for choice and know what it really means.
The pair of fiordilatte and gianduia is to die for: is like a gianduiotto straight from the refridgerator. They also have granita, which is like velvety gelato. Obviously almond, per tradition, and then strawberry, peach… as always it depends on the season, and from the fruit in the market.
It’s impossible to suggest which flavor to try. All each and every one. As the ancient wise men used to say… “De gustibus non disputandum est”.
