Lo scopettaro is one of the most famous and ancient trattorias in the Eternal City. Located at number 7 of Lungotevere di Testaccio , in the heart of the neighborhood of the same name. It is said that, before being an inn, this place was a workshop of sorghum brooms and that passers-by were enraptured by the smell of the pots of pasta and beans that the owner put on the stove for her husband. After almost ninety years of business, this historic establishment is a guarantee of true and authentic Roman cuisine , respecting the tradition and atmosphere of the typical inns of the Capital.
As soon as you enter Lo Scopettaro, you find yourself in a room furnished in a rustic and simple, but well-kept way. The two-story building has three rooms in total, through which the waiters serve the guests with cheerfulness and kindness. The atmosphere is welcoming and it is easy to feel at home in this tavern, thanks to the checked tablecloths, the earthenware bowls in which the appetizers are served and the wooden chairs and tables.

The simplicity and genuineness of the sign is also found in the menu that pays homage to the tradition of Roman cuisine with its tasty dishes, with long preparations and simple ingredients, but which require selected and excellent quality raw materials. It is the passion of the chefs that makes the difference at Lo Scopettaro, where pasta all’amatriciana, cacio e pepe, tripe, abbacchio and coratella are prepared by expert hands, according to ancient Roman tradition.
The recipes are particularly made “alla testaccina”, that is, based on the fifth quarter. So, go ahead with tripe, coratella with artichokes and veal nerves. The first courses, mainly made with durum wheat mezzeloni , are also made fresh, if tonnarelli or gnocchi are requested. This family-run tavern is ideal for enjoying typical Roman cuisine and surrounding yourself with a joyful and carefree atmosphere.
