In September 2018, the Da I Gemelli restaurant opened, or perhaps we should say, disembarked. Strengthened by the success of their restaurant in Portofino, opened about six years ago, the two twin boys decided to bring the family experience to Milan by opening their second restaurant. Continuing the legacy of eight generations of restaurateurs as well as following their most loyal customers home who are based in Milan during the year.

They did well. In Brera, a refined and pulsing heart of Milan, Da I Gemelli restaurant stands out for its dark-colored room lit by colored (not too bright) lights, the picture by Massimo Meda depicting blue fluorescent jellyfish placed above the bar counter, and modern wine cases that are key pieces of furniture to add light and movement.

The large tree trunk, which replaces the legs of the round tables on the sides of the rooms, is a detail that is not expected to be found in such an environment but which confirms the personality of the restaurant and its two young owners. On a romantic note, the wide arched window greets customers who decide to stop here for a nice and good lunch break. An address that finally pays homage to Ligurian cuisine, from the eastern Ligurian to be precise, which deserves to be recommended for a couple’s dinner but especially for a fun dinner with friends.

Fortunately, Da I Gemelli is above all not only in appearance but also in substance with high quality raw materials that are transformed into excellent dishes of raw seafood and tartare, in red crayfish and burrata seasoned with rtrofie basil worthy of carrying this name. If you want to try something different, that really exemplifies the signature of the twins try the “twin” scampi made so good by an undiscoverable secret recipe that you will want taste again soon.

What about the sweets? The thousand leaves, a plate of colored macaroons or chocolate mousse for the sweet tooth, confirms that a restaurant has the ability to succeed in quality cuisine if they are accompanied by aesthetic design and served by a helpful and kind staff.

A lunch or a dinner at I Gemelli is an experience that certainly deserves to be tried…actually, keeping in mind the twin owners, its worth double.

We can't. That's why every week we share the best experiences milan has to offer.
