Supersymmetry

A fascinating Noir journey through Federico Nero's decadent Italy

Bocconi area, via Cesare Balbo 32, CB32 space: no, we are not in real space but at the first solo exhibit of Federico Nero, a young graphic designer born in Padua and Milanese by adoption. He introduces his work with an exhibit not to be missed, curated by Carola Cometto. The opening of “Supersymmetry”, that will take place tomorrow evening from 7 pm to 10 pm, powered by Holy, will start the event.

It’s impossible not to get lost in the works displayed, eight large format “chromogenic print” photographs, available in single copy, that portray out of order Italian industrial sites, by night. Whether you are a fan of Noir or not, it will be difficult not to get hypnotized by the shots that, with their peculiar display, on vertical monoliths symbolizing tomb stones, strike you for the amounts of details and for the plays of light.

Supersymmetry

The technique of symmetry, the only intervention carried out on the images that were not edited otherwise, makes the subjects look surreal, abstract, almost like they are from space. The eyes see what they recognize and that’s where the mind game starts, trying to classify, guess, visualize what the symmetry warps but does not fake. Here’s a spaceship, a mental pyramid, a structure from an unidentified future made by who knows what population after ours.

A magnetic journey in the creative universe of the artist that began in 2014 and that through the media tries to identify a new philosophic prospective through a spiritual and scientific exploration. A feeling of uneasiness, of dark charm, accompanies the visitor along the route, carefully planned to trap him in a parallel world. So, here we are watching the same picture from different angles trying to understand the prospective of the shot, the origin of the inspiration. It almost seems like we are being thrown in the picture, at night, under a starry sky, to admire a decadent side of Italy that’s stuck between the past and the future.

The original soundtrack and an edit of the video work “Rêve Lucide” will accompany the exhibit, contributing in enhancing the realism of the show. Don’t worry, Carola, Federico, and the guys from Holy will be there to bring your feet back on the ground, on the more reassuring planet Earth, as you know it at least.
