“Verdi Verde” Project

Giuseppe Verdi's passion for botany

Did you know that Giuseppe Verdi, besides being a supreme composer and the philanthropist par excellence (the highest expression is precisely Casa Verdi) it was also a farmer and a great lover of botany? The “Verdi Verde” project aims precisely to enhance the latter aspect, through a Milanese course divided into two fascinating locations.

Villa Necchi Campiglio, located near via Vivaio, headquarter of the nursery acquired by the Ingegnoli Brothers’ company where the Master was using plants, vegetables and seeds for cultivation of its land in the Parma and Piacenza area.

Casa Verdi, where the project involves placing vases, fruit trees and benches in the central courtyard, the embellishment of a part of the via Sanzio courtyard with planters, the enhancement of the adjacent small “romantic” garden and finally the enrichment of the existing planting, in the garden facing via Monterosa, with a hedge of climbing roses and a weeping willow.

The guided tour of the house will proceed in the two museum rooms, in the historical archives, in the “Arab” room and will culminate in a musical moment in the Hall of Honour, where are planned screenings of Verdi’s operas and films that recall the life of the Master plus short recital of Verdi’s arias by the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi”, by the Academy for opera singers of the Teatro alla Scala and by the Municipal School of Music “Claudio Abbado”.
