Would you like to escape from Milan’s tentacles, without having to drive for miles and miles? Well, you’ve just found the very place for you: Antica Osteria Magenes. If you like to pedal follow the canal, a few curves through the rice fields and you’ll be transported to another dimension. Farms, green, swans and streams. Now that your eyes and mind are satisfied let’s go satisfy the taste buds!
You ring the intercom just as if you were entering a private residence. At the entrance a trusty advisor is waiting for you while his brother is at the reigns in the kitchen. To surprise you, leave you in awe.
Two halls and a patio outside that looks over a nice garden. Little ones are welcome and they can play in the open and allow you to – finally – eat in peace (you deserve it).
At Antica Osteria Magenes the menu is strictly milanese (in the titles!) and varies with the seasons with special emphasis on local products. I tasted a delicious lime, broccoli and anchovy risotto, and smoked trout (obviously theirs!) with a lemon and anise sauce reduction. Don’t miss the steak. A constant and piece de resistance is the “risotto giallo milano 2010”… I can’t even remember how many awards it has won! It deserves every one. It is exquisite: equal to, if not better, than many star risottos.
If you get a chance the business lunch includes first course, second course, water and a glass of wine and a coffee for 15€.
There, this place is a real treat: inexplicable the lack of a star. For now at least!
