A good dessert is the successful completion of every meal, a finishing touch that may be the smallest but gives meaning to everything that came before it. Nowadays, we are used to eat desserts even in the middle of the morning or during the afternoon if we meet with a friend in a cafè, and Milan, like always, provides us with and endless multitude of patisseries, ice-cream parlors, american cafès and everything else you could think of. All national and international cuisines are represented, each one deserving their spot in the sun, deserving to be tasted.
Flawless Milano has an ideal dessert and it’s really not the refined preparation that you can find in a restaurant: that kind of dessert cannot be considered in itself but it is part of the menu the chef included it in. The kind of dessert we want to talk you about is the everyday, petit dejuner-kind of dessert, the one that you find in street food menus and agrees with the Milanese way of life, always in a hurry. Here’s a list of our favorites:

It is from Sicily that all the ingredients of these amazing cannoli are coming from: the fresh ricotta produced with cow’s milk from the Hyblaean Mountains and available in a variety of flavors, hazelnut, cocoa and Bronte pistachio, the cannoli shells realized following an original recipe with Ganaceto’s organic flour, and the Nero d’Avola wine. Not to forget the candied orange zest decorating cannoli on the ends. Every cannoli is hand-made one by one, sealed with a red sugar seal, the unmistakable mark of the Bottone company. The best of the best, however, is in the kits you can buy, including everything necessary so that, once at home, you can fill your cannoli with an included sac-à-poche.

Turns out that paradise exists and it’s as big as a slice of toasted bread. Each option is better than the other. Our favorite category, though, are the Yummy Toasts with their toast with whipped cream, bananas and chocolate; the pear and chocolate one and the whipped cream and berries one. Pure transcendence.

Macha will transport you right in the heart of Shibuya, Tokyo, where the most recent street food trends meet the delicacies of Japan. Even if they are traditional, all of the desserts here have a certain je-ne-sais-quoi that separates them from all of their peers in town. Their blueberry cheesecake is a must of Sunday brunch, you have to taste the plumcake and nothing beats their pancakes. Go, now.

It’s been some years that the Milanese crowd discovered this gem that is always fully packed on weekend evenings. The absolute goodness of the food explains the overcrowding. The dessert section on their menu is absolutely delicious and totally worthy of being pillaged: besides the typical tiramisus and cheesecakes, we have Japanese treats like the daifuku mochi (bonbons made with rice flour that come in many flavors) and their variant with an ice-cream core, the yukimi daifuku and, at last, our favorites, the dorayaki, namely small rice pancakes filled with sweet Japanese bean marmalade. Just great.
