“Do you already know the Korean cuisine?” – probably these will be the first words you will hear once in Bab. Hard to find if you do not know it, Bab is really a Korean corner with only ten seats. Even though I am a Brera lover, I was not aware of this spot, but, as soon as I discovered it on the web, it got at the first place of my “must to try” restaurant list. Needless to say, after a couple of days I was in front of the entrance with a friend, who loves Ethnic cuisines as much as I do.
Once crossed the door and found a seat, we approached the Kimbab showcase, where are displayed these delicious seaweeds and rice rolls, comparable with the Japanese hosomaki, to which are added meat, eggs and different kind of vegetables. As an Asian cuisine lover I already knew the Korean one, but, if this is your first time trying it, do not worry, Jin – the owner – will be pleased to help you choosing. After selecting your Kimbab, I suggest you to hazard and combine them to a taste of Kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage), their it is excellent! Please note that Kimbab are to be eaten in one bite, never divided, or you will lose their magic, that perfect ingredients balance, which makes every roll a dish by its own, full with flavours.
If when arriving they would be already sold out – once done the lunch or dinner Kimbab, no more are made, in order to always have fresh products – you could instead pick something out of the short Korean dishes list. Ramion, gnocchi or dumplings, all freshly prepared and to be eaten right away, as soon as served, will leave you breathless! Match everything with some green tea, hot of course, as it is customary in Far East Asia. Before ending your meal, treat yourself with a sesame seeds ice–cream or a red bean one – you hardly find a better one in Milan – or their Korean coffee.
If you are still not convinced to try this little Asian spot, just know that you will feel at home as soon as you walk in and mostly that during your meal an enjoyable music background will please you, making the whole experience even more special. Suggested for a meal for two, romantic or not, or at most for four, keeping in mind that you could always rely on the take–away service in case you will not find any seat.
